Werdegang ‒ Curriculum Vitae

Peter Weingart is Visiting Research Professor at the University of Bremen, where he works closely with members of both the Linguistics and Literary Studies Faculty and the Social Sciences Faculty. He is on the Directors Team of the interdisciplinary program Fiction Meets Science: The World of Science under the Literary Microscope (FMS), and co-leader with Professor Norbert Schaffeld of the project group “Interpretation: Societal Context.” He is also conducting the FMS research project “Science and society vs science in society: is the picture changing?,” together with Luz Maria Hernandez.

A Professor Emeritus of Sociology, Sociology of Science and Science Policy at the University of Bielefeld, Peter Weingart was director of the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF: 1989-1994) and of the Institute for Science and Technology Studies (IWT) from 1993 to 2009. He is currently a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering Sciences (acatech), managing editor of the Sociology of the Sciences Yearbook and editor-in-chief of Minerva. He has published widely on science policy, science advice in the political sphere, the interaction between science and the media, science communication, and cultural representations of science.
